Taking deposits for repairs: how to do it without arguments

A deposit protects the parts you order. Explained well, almost nobody objects.

Ordering a screen for a device that never comes back is a cost you cannot recover. A deposit fixes it, as long as the customer understands it before they hand the phone over.

Say why, not just how much

"This covers the part we order for you today" lands very differently from "we need fifty dollars".

Put it in writing

A booking confirmation that names the part, the price and what happens if the job is cancelled ends most disputes before they start.

Make it easy to pay

Card at the counter or a link on the phone. The longer a deposit takes to pay, the more likely the job walks out of the door.
